最も混雑する月は、推測ではなく政府のデータに基づいています。
ンゴロンゴロを訪れるのに最適な時期についてのアドバイスの多くは、印象論に基づいています。タンザニア天然資源観光省は、実際の数字を年次報告書「マリアシリ統計速報」で月別に公表しており、そのデータは極めて明確です。2025年、当保護区には707,075人の海外からの訪問者がありました。ピークは8月の113,067人、次いで7月の104,349人——この2か月だけで年間のほぼ3分の1を占めています。同じ傾向は2024年、2023年、2019年にも見られ、これは単発的な異常値ではなく、安定したパターンです。車両の列に並ばずにクレーターを楽しみたいなら、この2か月は避けるべき月です。
4月は最も静かな月です。そして、そこには理由があります。
谷の底は歴然としている。4月の到着者数は18,220人に対し、8月は113,067人——その差は6倍以上。また4月は年間で最も雨の多い月で、リムの標高では22日の降雨日を通じて約215ミリの雨が降る。この2つの事実は、実は同じ一つの事実である。クレーターは閉鎖されず、動物たちは去らず、風景は砂色の茶ではなく緑に満ちている——だが、道は泥と化し、NCAAは特に四輪駆動車を推奨する（スタックを避けるためだ）。そして低い雲がリムに垂れ込めることもある。この月は、通好みの月であると同時に、賭けに出る者の月でもあるのだ。
1月と2月は閑散期にあたります。
南半球の夏には、もう一つの明確なピークがあります。1月は55,008人、2月は61,960人の到着者数を記録し、3月から5月の底堅い時期を大きく上回ります。これは保護区西部のンドゥトゥ平原での出産シーズンにあたり、移動する群れが短草の平原に広がり、仔を産み落とす時期です。この時期は、2つの雨季の間にある短い乾季と重なります。もしクレーターそのものよりも、むしろ大移動に関心をお持ちなら、この数ヶ月こそが重要であり、クレーター自体も8月に比べて格段に静かです。
四季折々の魅力と、二つの雨季。
The NCAA describes two major seasons: a rainy season from November to April and a dry season from May to October. Underneath that sits northern Tanzania's bimodal rainfall pattern, in which the short rains fall from around October to December and the long rains from March to May, with April the wettest month. Total rainfall varies enormously across the conservation area with altitude and aspect — from under 500 millimetres on the arid western plains to as much as 1,700 millimetres on the forested eastern slopes. The rim sits at roughly 1,000 millimetres a year.

Reading the arrivals data against the seasons, September and October are the strongest shoulder: still firmly in the dry season, with 79,176 and 86,080 arrivals respectively — busy, but a clear step down from August's 113,067. June, at 64,413, is the other good option, sitting at the start of the dry season before the July and August surge. If your priority is emptiness above all and you can accept mud, late March through May offers the crater at a quarter of peak traffic. Whatever you choose, book accommodation on the rim well ahead, because supply there is very limited.
